The Grace of East: An Ode to Heritage and Raya

By Editorial Team
In the quiet elegance of Harta Space, a symphony of brushstrokes and tradition comes alive. The Grace of East is not merely an art exhibition—it is a lyrical journey through time, an homage to the soul of Malaysia’s East Coast, and a radiant reflection of Raya’s spirit.
Running from 12 April 2025 to 27 April 2025, this collaboration between Harta Space and KLAS Art Auction unfolds like a woven song—rich with memories, movement, and meaning. As Hari Raya draws families close in celebration and reverence, the exhibition acts as a gentle invitation to pause, to look back, and to honour the stories that shaped us.
At the heart of the showcase lie works by Malaysian masters—Khalil Ibrahim, Dato Mohd Hoessein Enas, Ismail Mat Hussin, Rahmat Ramli, and Mohamed Zain Idris. Their pieces do not merely depict life—they embody it. From the flutter of a Wau soaring across a canvas to the quiet poise of kampung women harvesting paddy fields, every stroke evokes grace, freedom, and deep-rooted identity.
One is drawn particularly to Wau by Ismail Mat Hussin—a majestic tribute to the East Coast kite, resplendent in its intricate beauty, dancing between tradition and sky. Dato Hoessein Enas’ unnamed portrait of femininity whispers of refinement and quiet strength, while Paddy Farmers, rendered in delicate gouache, moves with the rhythm of rural life.
This exhibition is delicately curated to echo the poetic narrative of Habib’s Raya campaign, Rantaian Kasih 2025—the “ties that bind”, this year centred on the beloved craft of the Wau. Through this lens, The Grace of East becomes more than a gallery experience—it transforms into a tapestry of connection, binding artist to land, past to present, and soul to celebration.
“Inspired by the ethos of Rantaian Kasih, The Grace of East is a heartfelt reminder of who we are and where we come from,” shares Mirsham Meer, Director of Harta. “This Raya, as we celebrate love, generosity, and tradition, we invite everyone to rediscover the timeless grace of the East Coast through the eyes of our greatest artists.” Admission is free, the doors open wide—from Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm. Come. Wander. Reflect. Let the hues and heritage of the East Coast stir your spirit this Raya. For details, visit hartaspace.com or follow @hartaspace on Instagram.
